fancy shmancy

last week we went to the most fanciest and most expensive dinner of our lives!
and it was awesome!!

Adam’s mentor, Dr. Reynolds, wanted to take his two Master’s students (Adam and his colleague Jeff) out to dinner to celebrate their papers getting published and all the hard work they have done in the last year.
and he definitely treated us very well!

the dinner was AMAZING!! and the dessert was even better!
seriously, i could have eaten that food all.day.long.
plus not having to chase a toddler around the restaurant AND have a nice adult conversation…. winning!

it was really fun to also get to know the people Adam works with and their wives a lot better.
Dr. Reynolds has 5 kids and their youngest is named Eli and is only 10 months older than our Eli.
[actually, we have A LOT of similarities with them it’s pretty weird]
after a rather difficult week with our Eli being ornery and whiney, it was so nice to be able to talk to a more seasoned mother and be told, “You are doing okay.”
i could have hugged her when she said that.
i’m pretty sure i almost started crying.

i also loved seeing Adam in his element with his friends.
Adam spends so much time in the lab and i pretty much have no idea what he does.
so it was fun to hear him talking to others about his work and all of them getting excited.

being at dinner with Adam’s friends actually made me feel really bad that we have to leave.
Adam and Jeff are Dr. Reynolds’s first graduate students and you can tell it was really sad for him to say goodbye to his students.
i know Adam is really sad to leave and will miss the lab a lot.

but since they are all guys, they don’t really know how to show emotion very well…
so when Dr. Reynolds was trying to say how much he was going to miss them and enjoyed them being in the lab they all got super awkward and Adam just kept saying, “Yeah it was fun!”
i tried to squeeze his leg to make him say something a little more sincere or expressive but he didn’t really know what to say.
so i was just laughing to myself at the whole awkward exchange between the three of them.
i think all us wives were.

it was definitely one of the best nights i’ve had in a long time!
[the awkward exchange just made it better :)]
i don’t want to leave…

That sounds like a lovely evening and you look smashing! It's SO important as parents to take some time out for romantic dinners, movie nights or even Target without the kiddo (yep, done that!).
