three years

today is mine and Adam’s third wedding anniversary.
three years ago today, we knelt across the alter and promised to love & cherish one another for time and all eternity.

we have been through a lot in the last three years, good & bad.
i would be completely lying if i said these last 3 years have been nothing but bliss.
like most people who are married know, marriage takes hard work!

i once learned this phrase in one of my classes:
intimacy breeds conflict.

those of you who swear you have a perfect marriage, you may not understand that phrase.
but for the rest of us [which i’m pretty sure is a larger number than the former], you are probably nodding your head in agreement.

the more you get closer to someone, the more you know about them.
the more you know about them, the more you start to pick up on little things (personality traits even) that can bother you.
the more these things bother you, the more likely disagreements can come up.
and so on.

when i heard this phrase, it honestly gave me hope in my relationship.
hope that’s there’s nothing wrong with me, or with Adam, or our marriage.
hope that we are actually normal.

yes, we have arguments and yes, feelings get hurt.
but that doesn’t mean i love Adam less.
we try to solve our problems with lots of love & patience.
{well if i’m really being honest, Adam is the patient one}
and when we do, we have grown to love each other more.
and honestly the fact that we WANT to work out our disagreements truly shows how much we really love each other when it can be so easy to give up.

this idea that disagreements bring couples closer together as they resolve them correctly, has been proven time and time again in research. and i truly believe that our disagreements have brought us much more closer together because we able to open up emotional barriers, talk things through, and understand one another better.
and making up is always so fun to do!

no, these last three years hasn’t been free of trials and unhappiness.
and i know our relationship isn’t perfect {because who’s is?}
but because we have made a continual effort to show love, support, and compassion toward one another, there are days where my life really does feel perfect.

these last three years have truly been the happiest in my life.
i cannot imagine going through the things i have gone through with anyone else but Adam.
he knows me better than anyone, better than myself!
and there is no one else i would rather work on life’s difficulties with than him.

i love you, Adam!!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

YAYYYY!!! Your wedding pictures are darling, btw! but yeah...I totally agree. I especially like when you said that there are days that feel perfect. There are days when I have butterflies when I see my husband and I am just so excited and happy and I love it! And there are other days he just straight up bugs me! hahah! But that's okay :) We work through it all!

Thank you so much for your honesty. There are so many people who say how wonderful and perfect their marriage is that it made me nervous when my boyfriend and I would bicker. Honesty like this has really made all of the effort. Because you're totally right the closeness and knowing we each think it's worth it, makes us so much closer.

So so so cute :) What this post tells me is y'all got married basically...right after finals haha. We did the same thing.

I totally agree with the intimacy breeds conflict thing.

Aw happy anniversary! I was one of many nodding my head at your statement. I was just sharing with a friend yesterday about how my hubby and I are learning how to fight fair from past times when fights have been bad, so that when we fight (which happens, just a fact of life!), it won't be as bad as that one time when... ; ) Also your wedding pictures are gorgeous!
