Lost and Found

for the BlogHer Book Club i was able to read Lost and Found by Geneen Roth.
it was definitely a very profound and eye-opening book filled with great insights about the author’s {and really our own} relationship with money.

the book is about Roth’s personal experience of losing her whole life savings {1 million dollars!!} in the Bernie Madoff scam. she realizes that because she never tried to understand money before or really tried to even be conscious of it.
at the beginning she says, “I had had the luxury of not paying much attention to money, partly because i was making enough to pay by bills… and I relegated the money part of our lives to [my husband].”
i thought that was such an interesting insight how a lot of times we maybe don’t realize our own relationship with money because we are always able to survive one way or another making it not seem like an issue.

i think what Roth went through would be devastating!
i think how she has come to terms with it is inspirational!
this book is great read if you are looking to gain more perspective on your own relationship with money & spending
{and food! she talks about that in here too and has other books pertaining to relationship with eating}

it’s definitely not a financial advice column and she doesn’t tell you how to invest your money or anything. it’s more of a good feelings “help you when your down on your luck” kind of story.
so if you’re looking for something to read that may help improve your financial life emotionally, this is a good book to check out!
