Hello to all the lovely readers at And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson. My name is Sue and I blog over at Hello. Also, I love you. I love to laugh and hate to cry. I have an amazing husband named Aaron and an adorable puppy named Twink. We are a happy little family of three. Aaron is in the Air Force and because of that we get to live in Japan. I love to try new things and I'm lucky that I get to do that almost every day. I try to live each day with a happy heart and an open mind. I don't always succeed but it's always worth the effort. If you have a minute come visit my blog and say hello. I love to make new blog friends.
I love that Megan talks about stronger marriages a lot on her blog and I wanted to write something along those lines. So today I'm going to tell you something you probably don't hear much about. My husband and I recently started couples counseling. He's a little embarrassed about that but honestly, I'm not. I don't see counseling as a last ditch effort to save a marriage. I see it as something to help a marriage be even better than it already is. If you're new to something and you don't really know how to do it, how do you learn? Trial and error is an obvious one. Or you can read a book or take a class on it. And that's how I view counseling. We're taking a class that will help us to better communicate with and appreciate each other. My husband does not mistreat me, we hardly ever argue, and we're very happy together. This is just something that will help us be better than we already are.
Sometimes communication in a marriage is hard. I say something and my husband hears something completely different. Then I think he did the opposite of what I said just to upset me. But really, why would he do that? The easy answer is he didn't. I just took it that way. But it can be so frustrating some days trying to work through our different communication styles. My husband is a wonderful man but we were raised very differently and we simply don't see eye to eye on some things. I like that we can go to our counseling session and have a safe, neutral environment to talk about some of the things that might be hard to talk about otherwise.
We're not on the same page with religion or politics (the two "big" issues) and that's okay. We don't have to have the same opinions. My view on both those subjects has evolved as I've grown up and learned more about them. I'm constantly learning new things to help myself be a better person. And really, that's what it's all about. Being a better wife, sister, daughter, friend, soon-to-be aunt, and one day mom. If I am the best person I can be and my husband is the best person he can be then we consider ourselves lucky. And this is why I'm not ashamed of going to couples counseling. It's helping us to be better people and to understand each other. I think my husband is amazing for agreeing to go with me. It's not every man who will admit that maybe we need a little help understanding each other. And it's not every man who will admit that maybe we could do a little better.
Okay, enough of the deep/intense stuff and on to my giveaway!

Today you have a chance to win a purse I found in one of my favorite stores here called Sieblet. I have no idea what that means but there are all sorts of cute purses and socks and girly things, so it's my kind of store. This purse will come stuffed with Japanese goodies for you to enjoy, but they're a surprise!
