Why Women Need Fat

why women need fat

i have struggled for years with positive body image.
to me, it’s never good enough.

so when i was accepted to be a part of the BlogHer book review to read “Why Women Need Fat,” i was soon intrigued and couldn’t wait to hear what the author had to say.

and well, it definitely was intriguing!

the authors cited research, historical reports, and looked to other cultures to show how the diet of American women has changed over the last few decades.
they showed that years ago when no one was really worried about calories and polyunsaturated fats vs. saturated fats. it was all just about what was good, what they could make, and what would keep them full to do the day’s work.
and people were thinner!

one of the most interesting points that they talked about was body types in relation to childbirth and why there are more C-sections than there used to be
{the answer would surprise you!— hint: it’s not because doctors are trying to make more money}

i honestly came away from this book having a better appreciation for our bodies and a better {healthier} view of my own body image frustrations.
{though that’s maybe another post for another time}

though the book can be a pretty slow read
[it’s completely captivating, at least not to me]
it still had a lot of good points and topics that i thought was really important knowledge to have

especially as a mother, i’m glad i understand a little more about how to keep a healthy diet so that i can feed my children right and pass on that knowledge to them.

if you are interested in how to maintain healthier eating habits this book is definitely a great one to read!
note: it’s not a dieting book!
it’s more of a book about understanding our bodies and the natural {easy} ways to stay healthy.

This is a paid review for BlogHer Book Club but the opinions expressed are my own.

I am going to have to read this book! I can't say no to a book with this title. I am very interested to read about the connection with the c-section rate... as a maternity nurse, I see this issue completely different than most, and do see the laziness of drs, etc. Thank you!

sounds good! I'm almost done with my dietetics degree so i'm always interested in that sort of thing. I wonder what kind of training the author has
