"THIS IS THE BEST HALLOWEEN EVER!!"
halloween festivities
Of course Elijah looooooooooooved all the candy he got
[and he got a TON of chocolate, which we are strongly regulating]
but he also absolutely loved seeing all the kids and their different costumes.
All night he would say,
"Mom, look at that ghost! Look she's Minnie Mouse! Oh that's a robot!!"
Like seriously all night.
It was actually surprising that he wouldn't run to the next house because he was too fascinated by all the costumes. But then once he snapped back into candy mode he would yell,
"I WANT SOME MORE TREATS!!!"
So now we're working on being more grateful and not greedy.
Also? My unibrow.
Yeah, good holiday. :)
pumpkin carving
Some things you should always do while carving {painting} pumpkins:
:: don't have plans. cause they won't work.
:: and keep it simple. so that you won't be disappointed when your complicated plans fail.
:: mix the paint colors. and add black to everything. cause YOLO.
:: remember that newspapers doesn't protect from toddlers
:: wear goggles. cause pumpkin guts are harmful...?
:: don't get in between a toddler and his paint.
:: pick your nose #yolo
:: don't carve pumpkins 13 days before Halloween because they will rot quickly in the Arizona heat.
fun times.
And I forgot to take an after picture before the aforementioned rotting occurred.
But just know they looked awesome.
And Elijah cried when we had to throw them away.
Which has to mean he had a great time right?
Family memories in the making. :)
what we learned this Halloween
:: Elijah catches on to things quickly when it involves candy
:: and he will say trick-or-treat to anyone & everyone to get more of it!
:: Eli does not like the insides of pumpkins. in fact he is terrified. he will scream at the sight.
:: he also hates lit up jack-o-lanterns. you would think they are little orange demons the way he avoids them.
:: sometimes wigs are just a lot of fun.
:: Eli learned very quickly that toothbrushes & pretzels are lame treats.
:: parents deserve half the candy of their children. it's only fair.
:: Elijah is reeeaaaallllyyyy good at turning on the charm when it means more candy. he worked those old ladies good!
:: it is a worthy tradition to eat Halloween candy for breakfast on November 1st. and i'm happy to pass that on to my son :)
:: kids as fuzzy animals are about the cutest things in the entire world!

BYU Recycling maze
the week before Halloween, we went to check out the BYU Recycling Plant’s annual
maze of trash!
[well, recyclable trash like paper, plastic, and boxes]
my friend Kelsey’s husband, Craig, works at the plant and helped build the maze.
they did a really really good job!! the maze was awesome complete with having to climb over obstacles and going through a tunnel.
Elijah thought it was so fun to walk through all the materials and kept wanting to pull apart the maze walls. for a kid that would rather play in our trash can than his race cars, i guess i shouldn’t have expected anything less.
a maze full of trash goods was pretty much his dream come true!
Adam also thought it was funny to hide around the dark corners and scare us. Elijah would laugh so hard when Adam yelled “BOO!” and quickly caught on how fun it was to scare mommy. so that became Adam and Elijah’s goal for the rest of the time.
funny boys!
i’m lame and posted about the maze late… but the BYU Recycling builds a maze every year and it’s FREEEEEEEEEEE!
so be sure to check it out next year!
{cheap & easy date/family night idea!}
one more Halloween post & a winner!
behold, the obligatory pumpkin carving post!
since Halloween weekend was spent at the Strengthening Family Symposium and bouncing around to different Halloween parties, we didn’t get a chance to carve our pumpkins until Halloween night.
as you can tell, we didn’t use any cool patterns and just totally winged them.
but i think i like them that way!
[Adam’s star pumpkin, Elijah’s first little pumpkin fact, and my crooked face pumpkin]
here’s a close up on Elijah’s.
i decided to get out some little puffy paint bottles and just pain a face on it real quick.
i then wrote “Elijah’s first pumpkin” on the side but forgot to take a picture of it
i was pretty proud of our quick, 30-min pumpkin carving/painting skills!!

Halloween with my best friends
on Halloween weekend, my friend Zack and his wife threw an awesome party at their house
it was seriously SOOOOOO FUN!!!!
i’m pretty sure i haven’t laughed that hard in ages!
it had been a very very long time since i had the chance to get together with everyone.
i had hung out with them all back in junior high & high school
{is it really that long ago??}
and they are truly some of my very best friends!!
i can honestly tell you that i don’t know where i would be without their love and friendship
no matter what, they have always been there for me through the good times and the bad.
they have let me cry on their shoulders late at night when i had my first heartbreak.
they helped convince me to go to Provo for school and find my place in life.
they taught me more about faith, love, & happiness.
i have never laughed harder than when i’m with them.
and i have never felt more accepted & loved than when i am around them.
i cannot say enough good things about these people and i feel so honored that we have maintained our close friendship through all these years!!
they always manage to lift my spirits and make me feel special!
i hope everyone has friends like them.
everyone needs friends like them!
i truly didn’t mean to get all mushy before i showed all these pictures.
but looking back on them, it was too hard not to share how i felt!
so without further ado, here are some pictures from our fun night
[Calvin & Hobbes // Circus Dog & Circus Bear]
[Cowboys // The Lawrence Welk Show SNL characters]
Elijah was naturally the life of the party!
he thought it was so funny to get scared by the guys
and surprisingly, if you scared him good, you became his new best friend
we then played a game called Adverbs.
someone goes out of the room and the rest of the group makes up an adverb [put –ly on the end of a word] to act it out. the person then comes back and has to try and guess what word they are all acting out during a scene.
i’m pretty sure i didn’t explain it right but it is the most hilarious game!
[acting out Provo-ly by proposing at the hospital :)]
[Cory and Elijah]
this picture is blurry but i love it! Elijah got very comfortable with everyone :)
thanks so much for the fun party, Zack & Marissa!!
